Marvel Legends is a 6-inch scale action figure line based upon the superheroes of Marvel Comics. At first it was made by Toy Biz, and then by Hasbro.
The Marvel Legends product line is a byproduct of the Spider-Man Classics product line also made by Toy Biz. At its origin, the Marvel Legends line adopted the clamshell packaging and the enclosed comicbook that had been packaged with the Spider-Man Classics product line. The first Marvel Legends series included versions of the Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man & the Toad.
Recently, Hasbro has become the new licensor of the Marvel Universe rights to make toys & game, and Toy Biz was rechristend as Marvel Toys. The current Hasbro boxing didn’t include a comicbook.
From the outset, the Marvel Legends product line has used the so-called chase concept to bring out figures founded on less common or identifiable characters. These acquired their moniker by being available in smaller numbers than the other action figures, hence inducing collectors to chase after the products. In time, instead of completely fresh action figures, the chase idea was confined to variants, like a replacement head or a other colour scheme from an action figure put out in that same series. These action figures became highly coveted by action figure collectors.
Toy Biz recently brought out the “Build-A-Figure” (BAF) idea to the Marvel Legends product line, beginning with series nine. Each action figure in the series there was a part of a bigger action figure. A consumer who purchased all the action figures in the line would then hold every component part to put together a new action figure unobtainable in it’s own packaging.
The idea was re-employed in the 10th Toy Biz line, where each action figure was boxed with a part of a robot called Sentinel. Other BAFs would include Onslaught, Apocalypse, Mojo, Giant-Man, Annihilus, MODOK, Brood Queen, Blob, Red Hulk, Nemesis, Ronan the Accuser, Sandman, Ares, Nemesis, and Fin Fang Foom.
In addition to the Action Figures, Marvel Legends is a British comicbook serial. It’s in Marvel UK’s Collector Edition product line. It’s being put out by Panini Comics but reissues Marvel Comics from the U.S.. Each issue features a Thor, Captain America & Iron Man tale. It’s planned to be a sister title of Avengers United.
The back pages has Legendary Letters which is a page where fan’s letters are published. The cover is thick cardstock, contrary to the United States covers that have a much flimsier cover. It has fewer ads compared to the U.S. comics it reprints. Plus, all of the ads are for Marvel associated merchandise.
